The World War I Chinese Laborers Memorial Hall is a permanent memorial facility to commemorate the 140,000 Chinese laborers sent to the European battlefield during World War I. Haiyuan Park, where the base is located, was once the site of the wharf where laborers went out to sea. The design adopts the strategy of landscape architecture, with the main building volume buried underground, thus protecting the initial features of the site style to the greatest extent. The design concept attempts to integrate the site characteristics with the significance of the event. The cross-shaped entrance cracks suggest the crossroads of modern China. Through the integration of structure, equipment and construction technology, the museum has reached the Sino-German high energy efficiency design standard A, becoming the first passive low energy memorial project in China.
