选址位于哈尔滨太阳岛风景名胜区，这里植被茂盛、景色优美，是哈尔滨城市重要的生态屏障。新馆是对原有建筑的扩建工程，设计将扩建部分布置在老建筑东侧，新老建筑之间形成南向开口的中央大厅，同时对既有圆形建筑成环抱之势，建构恢弘大气的主立面形态。为了使扩建部分与原设计更好的融合、衔接，在布局上采用了与原有展馆相同的单元式布置模式，空间与层高充分满足各展馆的功能需要。  

The site is located in Harbin Sun Island Scenic Area, where the vegetation is lush and the scenery is beautiful, which is an important ecological barrier of Harbin city. The new building is an extension project of the original building. The design arranges the extension part on the east side of the old building, forming a central hall with a south opening between the new and old buildings. At the same time, it encircled the existing circular building and constructed a grand and atmospheric main facade shape. In order to make the extension part better integrated with the original design, the layout adopts the same unit layout mode as the original exhibition hall, the space and height fully meet the functional needs of each exhibition hall.
