The China National Silk Museum is located by the West Lake in Hangzhou, and its renovation and expansion project is strictly restricted by the construction and management of the West Lake Scenic area. The original building was built in the early 1990s, and the renovation and expansion project is divided into three parts: new construction, renovation and expansion and repair. While respecting the layout, form, structure and details of the old building to the maximum, the renovation part only carried out partial restoration for specific functional problems. The new part is not conceived as a grand building volume, but is disassembled, dispersed and dissolved into the terrain, adopting an architectural language that is both continuous and different, forming a dialogue relationship with the old building and the urban historical memory of Hangzhou.
